In Dublin wordt een boek gepubliceerd dat evolutie neerzet als een hoax - dat wordt gelanceerd door de Ierse minister van Wetenschap.

IN DUBLIN tomorrow a book rubbishing evolution will be launched – by Ireland’s Minister of State for Science, Technology and Enterprise, Conor Lenihan!

The Origins of Specious Nonsense is the creation of John J May, who states:

Weer zo'n antiwetenschappelijke figuur die verantwoordelijk is voor de scholing van de jeugd en de stand van onze kennis.
Wij hadden hier natuurlijk ook al de staatssecretaris Maria van der Hoeven, die vond dat creationisme op scholen moest worden onderwezen. Dit idee kon ze niet staande houden onder alle kritiek, maar stel je voor hoe het zou zijn als de christelijke partijen geen tegenwicht hadden?

Update: We have just that learned Lenihan will not now launch the book after the author asked him to withdraw in the wake of controversy on the web. May said he had asked Lenihan not to launch the book:

Because I am so embarrassed that the Minister for Science has been so insulted and eviscerated on a political website. He doesn’t even believe in my central argument.

Speaking from Galway earlier last night, Mr Lenihan said while he “remained to be convinced” by Mr May’s arguments, he would be attending the launch in a personal capacity and as he believed “diversity of opinion is a good thing”. However following Mr May’s request he has withdrawn from the launch.

Dus Lenihan geneert zich blijkbaar wel over zijn geloof, wat op zich een goed teken is. Het is misschien een fase op de weg naar inzicht.

Het blijft weliswaar zorgelijk dat hij als minister van wetenschap niet het verschil weet tussen een mening en een wetenschappelijke theorie gebaseerd op feiten.
