Are we reaching a tipping point in Denmark and the collapse of psychiatry as we know it? The last 2 weeks psychiatry has been in the media 640 times that is 45 media articles A DAY!!! I repeat 45 articles, TV or radio programs discussing psychiatry A DAY!!

Psychiatry is now truely in crisis here in Denmark.

Why is it happening now in Denmark you may be asking. It is happening because professor Peter Gøtzsche, director of the prestigious Cochrane Centre has after writing his book met with survivors and professionals working for a paradigm change in psychiatry, and that has personalized what he views as the most corrupt area in medicine, namely psychiatry. As a doctor and professor with impeccable credentials he cannot be dismissed and when he wrote his article in a national newspaper two weeks ago titled "Psychiatry going astray" describing 10 psychiatric myths, he opened the can of worms.

Psychiatry retaliated by being rude and insulting however since he is taking one of them to the medical ethics comity for labeling him paranoid the psychiatric tone has changed to a more conciliatory tone and increasingly, psychiatry is now focusing on damage control. ie. they are desperately trying to stuff the worms back in the can. But they can't.

The crisis in Danish psychiatric is deepening! They have declined the invitation to participate in Psychovision's conference to debate two questions. Does long-term neuroleptic treatment improve outcomes and quality of life for those with schizophrenia and other psychoses and, likewise, for those with depression? They were invited to present their scientific evidence proving that it does improve outcomes and quality of life (for otherwise why would they treat people lifelong). Then they would discuss, based on Robert Whitaker's book Anatomy of an Epidemic, their evidence. This they were going to do with Whitaker and Peter Gøtzsche.

But they have said no!

This is serious. As professionals with the power to enforce this means that they have an obligation to the general public. Their field is under question and by declining it raises many serious concerns.

Their field is becoming more and more unraveled and if they want to save psychiatry now would be the time to bring on the evidence. But no they decline! Thus it becomes obvious that they are unable to provide evidence of positive outcomes and in my opinion confirm (what many of us have known for years) that YES they are guilty of untold damage to peoples brains over the years. This is something that is abundantly and tragically evident in any psychiatric home where people have been on long-term neuroleptic treatment.

Shame on you psychiatry! Shame!
